Details
Zinc Pyrithione has been used, as an anti-dandruff agent, for more than 60 years, in concentrations of 1-2%. It is effective against wide range of pathogenic bacteria. Its other applications include treatments of Psoriasis, Eczema, ringworm, Fungus, atheletes foot, Dry skin and atypical dermatitis. Due to its low low solubility in Water, Zinc pyrithione is suitable for use in outdoor paints and products that provide protection against mildew and algae. its decomposition ny UV light is slow, providing years of protection even against direct sunlight. Antifungal effect of Zinc Pyrithione most likely lies in the ability of an un-ionized pyrithione molecule to disrupt membrane transport by blocking the proton pump that energises the transport mechanism.
